After the realization set in that my athletic skill would not allow me to make it in the NBA (not even close), I decided to trade my basketball jersey in for a United States Navy uniform. So far, it has been a great decision. I enlisted in the US Navy in 2005 as an electronic technician who specialized in basic computer hardware. Those skills eventually evolved into a system administrator who could of been at the time considered, the jack-of-all-trades, and the master of none. I started out learning the ins & outs of desktop hardware (RAM, HDD, video, NIC, etc...). Then gradually moved to the server side of things as a progressed in seniority. At that point, I mainly worked on Windows Server 2008 and Exchange with some exposure to Linux.After becoming familiar with server technologies I ventured out into the world of networking and thats where I had the most fun and eventually stayed. I started off using Sun Solaris switches and a Cisco (4000 series) router. I eventually assisted with the overhaul of the Sun Solaris switches and installed Cisco switches (2900 series). I stayed in that position for a while until I was honorably discharged from the Navy and joined Rayonier as a System Admin.I now work at Stack Sports in a Jr. Dev Ops role.
