CLINICALComprehensive interest in spine surgery including trauma (fractures and spinal cord injury),degenerative conditions, tumors, infections, and deformity, as well as failed back surgery and chronic pain.Other than spine trauma, interests in fracture care in general and lower extremity in particular, including severe periarticular injuries of the knee, ankle, and foot as well as non unions, mal unions, infection, and limb salvage.RESEARCHPrimary interests in understanding spinal stability (or instability), particularly in the cervical spine. Regular teaching for medical students, departments of orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, and physical medicine and rehabilitation, and Physical Therapy students.In orthopedic surgery, manage the clincal and basic science teaching programs, journal club, morbidity and mortality conferences, and the grand rounds lecture program.Nationally, Chair of the Evidence Compilation and Analysis section of the Research Council for the Board of Directors of the North American Spine Society, where biggest resonsibilities are guideline and appropriate use criteria development, patient safety and performance measures, with combined activities in health policy in particular.
