About Cori M.
Reading has always been a big part of my life. It started in 1st grade when my teacher, Mrs. June, started reading Clifford books to the class. I was hooked. After college and two years as a full time volunteer the first job that I applied for (and wanted the most) was at Half Price Books. I wanted to work somewhere that I would be surrounded by books all day. I decided to take my first step towards becoming a librarian by working as a Media Center Clerk at Christel House Academy. After a move to Illinois I found my home at Bernie's Book Bank where I was able to combine my love for books and my desire to leave the world in a better place than how I found it by serving underserved children. I am now continuing that mission by working at the Indianapolis Public Library and attending grad school at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at IU Indianapolis where I am studying Library and Information Sciences.
Listed skills include Customer Service, Public Speaking, Program Management, Conflict Resolution, and 16 others.

Media Center Clerk
I was the primary person in the school media center (library), which is a Shared Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library (IndyPL). I used Horizon 7.5.3 to check books out to students, check books in, print out pull lists of books to be transferred to other branches, request classroom sets of books for teachers, and check on students' accounts. I also shelve books, create displays of books and bulletin boards, help students order books from other branches, prepare books to be cataloged at IndyPL, create "Lost Book Lists" for students, host the yearly Book Fair and promote reading throughout the school.
Book Seller
I have many different responsibilities. First, I am responsible for different sections of books in the store on a rotating basis. Section work includes shelving books, pulling old inventory off the shelves, putting books and other materials on clearance, making sure labels on the shelves are accurate and presentable, and basically making sure the section looks good. Second, I need to be able to run the register. We use an in house developed program called Beanstore. I need to be able to ring up sales, do returns, create gift cards, adjust prices and add discounts, reprint receipts, cash out buy slips, and make sure that the customer is charged accurately for their purchase. Third is customer service. Mostly this includes helping customers find books and other materials. We have a partial computerized inventory that we use, Bookworm. While this isn't always accurate I do need to have a general idea of where in the store to find what the customer is looking for. I am not always able to put a book in the customer's hand, but I try to make sure they leave satisfied. This also includes taking phone calls. The fourth task is processing buys. Most of our inventory is used and purchased from the public. I need to quickly, accurately and fairly make an offer on the materials that our customers bring in. I have to be able to identify what will sell and how much I think it will sell for. This includes having a general awareness of the prices of not only books but of specialty items like comics, DVDs and Blu-Rays, LPs, and collectible items. I need to be able to read people's body language to see if they are unhappy about their offer but aren't able to put into words quite what they are feeling. The sections I am responsible for include Christianity, general fiction, paranormal romance and erotica, paperback romance and paranormal romance, social sciences, business, games and humor, home arts, arts and crafts, travel, textbooks, video games, metaphysics, and iStore.
Istore Representive
In addition to Bookseller duties the iStore Representative is in charge of processing and packaging the store's online orders. I have to be familiar with the different software programs to process the orders. Programs include Monsoon, Dazzle, Order Fulfillment System (OFS), Bookworm and Stamps.com.I also processed and packaged orders placed through Search and Ship, the company's internal order system to place orders from one store to another, transferred merchandise within the district from store to store, and shipped packages, envelopes and letters to corporate headquarters, customers and vendors using Stamps.com.
Outdoor Activity Instructor
I was a volunteer at Greenhill YMCA. I lead a variety of activities with other international volunteers, help with general maintenance, host groups and I occasionally am the Duty Instructor. I was assessed for a number of activities. These include archery, zipline, shallow bouldering, low level ropes, group hikes, night hikes, initiatives, Greenhill Challenge, orienteering, and a few others. Every day there is a different duty instructor (DI). The main job of the DI is to assist groups at meal time. They are also the on call person for 24 hours, taking calls from groups who need help.
