About Cory Hill

Currently working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the transition of antimonide-based barrier infrared detector arrays into space-qualified flight hardware, developing new detector array technology, and increasing the overall materials throughput capability of JPL's novel III-V semiconductor production effort. Specific hands-on technical areas include molecular beam epitaxy of infrared superlattice detectors, diamond point turning of infrared arrays, and in-depth materials characterization. From the theoretical side activities include analytical and Monte Carlo simulations of optical cavities, plasmonic metasurfaces and detector array characteristics.Spent two years in industry leading a diverse team of scientists and engineers at Monsanto in the development of automation for R&D projects in the agricultural and biotech industries. PhD in Applied Physics from Caltech, 2001. Many years of research in design, crystal growth, characterization and production of III-V semiconductor optoelectronic devices (infrared detector arrays, cascade lasers, solar cells) at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Neat result: a laser I grew is making methane measurements as part of an instrument suite on the Curiosity Rover on Mars (the planet!). MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, 2010. Emphasis on finance.Specialties: Developed high-temperature mid infrared lasers for NASA space missions as well as high resolution infrared imaging arrays based on molecular beam epitaxy of III-V quantum wells, quantum dots, and superlattices. AFM, interferometry, X-ray, and Hall characterization of semiconductor device structures. Image analysis of visible and IR data. Also providing custom optoelectronic device design, fabrication and characterization through Infravision Systems, LLC.
