Currently working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory on the transition of antimonide-based barrier infrared detector arrays into space-qualified flight hardware, developing new detector array technology, and increasing the overall materials throughput capability of JPL's novel III-V semiconductor production effort. Specific hands-on technical areas include molecular beam epitaxy of infrared superlattice detectors, diamond point turning of infrared arrays, and in-depth materials characterization. From the theoretical side activities include analytical and Monte Carlo simulations of optical cavities, plasmonic metasurfaces and detector array characteristics.Spent two years in industry leading a diverse team of scientists and engineers at Monsanto in the development of automation for R&D projects in the agricultural and biotech industries. PhD in Applied Physics from Caltech, 2001. Many years of research in design, crystal growth, characterization and production of III-V semiconductor optoelectronic devices (infrared detector arrays, cascade lasers, solar cells) at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Neat result: a laser I grew is making methane measurements as part of an instrument suite on the Curiosity Rover on Mars (the planet!). MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, 2010.
