Patrick is the Vice President of Enterprise and Operational Risk Management and also serves as the Director of Information Security at Lawyers Mutual, having previously served in the roles of relationship manager and underwriter. Prior to joining Lawyers Mutual in 2011 he was in private practice in the areas of real estate, foreclosure, creditor’s rights, and insurance subrogation - actively practicing in North Carolina and Virginia. He has been a regular speaker at CLE's on a variety of topics including ethics, practice management, trust accounting, starting a firm, insurance, and cyber risk/privacy and continues to speak on topics focusing on technology, data privacy, security, and risk management.He is licensed in North Carolina, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the US Patent & Trademark Office; received his J.D. from Campbell University School of Law and a B.S. in Biology from UNC-Chapel Hill. Additionally, he is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for US private sector (CIPP/US) and Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified In Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), and Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE). He has also received the designations of board certified Privacy & Information Security Law Specialist (NC State Bar), Privacy Law Specialist (PLS) by the IAPP (which is accredited by the ABA for the specialty) as well as Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) by the IAPP. Patrick serves on several local and state bar association committees, including the NC State Bar's Cybersecurity Committee, the NC Bar Association’s Privacy and Data Security Section's Council, and the Wake County Bar Association's CLE Committee and Communications & Technology Committee. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, Wake County Bar Association, Triangle Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and ISACA.
