Having grown up on a farm, I enjoy helping rural clients navigate planning, legal and surveying rules so they get the best out of their biggest asset – their land. Just like land owners, no two properties are the same and so you can't always apply a cookie-cutter approach when dealing with rural land. My aim is to become a trusted advisor on land matters to those living and working in the rural sector.I particularly like taking tricky planning or title boundary issues and charting a pathway through the red tape to release the value and productivity in a property. In many of these situations skills are needed from other allied professionals and I enjoy working as part of a team to support a common client.Although a lot of land information can be obtained from a desktop, there is nothing like being on the ground to fully appreciate and understand the potential for a property. I still enjoy getting out ‘in the field' particularly around Banks Peninsula or the high country, and so meeting rural owners on site is a pleasure. I began my surveying career in the public sector, dealing with Crown land issues and surveying land for public works such as roads and power schemes. This is an area of expertise that not many surveyors have in the private sector, and it is one I enjoy using to support our local and central government clients.
