Global Head Of Communications
As Devro's third senior communications appointment in less than two years, my brief when hired was to modernise the company's approach to internal and external communications at all levels and also be heavily involved in the company's AGM, annual report, commenting on changes at the board level, strategy shifts and senior stakeholder/staff events. This involved working with reluctant stakeholders and departments resistant to change as I showed the benefits of a the sort of proactive communications strategy you would expect from a FTSE 250 listed market-leading FMCG company with £250million turnover. In addition to trying to show the company what the gold standard for modern engagement looked like, I led the communications team across the globe, including Australia, USA, Netherlands, Czech Republic, China and UK.The post was made redundant due to a global, company-wide restucture which saw the communications function removed from the organisation.
Head Of Corporate Affairs, Communications And Digital: Scotland
Role: Strong mix of skills required in this position to cover crises, boost internal communications, engagement and events (including training), work with politicians at Westminster and Holyrood, train staff in modern MarComms and create a strategy to ensure PwC was seen as more than a company of accountants. Results: Successes included raising media awareness of new services, including cyber- security where we went from zero presence to being quoted weekly, resulting in business leads. Also launched our Codebase initiative where we partnered with one of Europe’s largest tech hubs and incubators to show our commitment to digital. This generated business in excess of £3million thanks to strong MarComms, engagement and services. We also tapped strongly into STEM initiatives to highlight (internally and externally) female and BAME/non-white staff to show how progressive the Scottish operation was.Traditional operations were also promoted with our assurance, tax, fraud and deal-making teams all receiving positive coverage - planned and reactive.Statistics: • PwC (internal comms): 20% increase in articles read, upswing in staff event attendance and decrease in staff falling for cybersecurity attacks (actual and practice attacks)• PwC (external): Increase in media coverage for firm and experts by 14% as well as 10% increase in leads/event sign-ups via social media/websites
