System Operations Engineer
CurrentMy day-to-day tasks vary greatly as my position covers many roles, ranging from -- Assessing client or project needs and recommending hardware and software to meet those needs.- Ensuring optimal system performance and scalability through system performance tuning and capacity planning.- Provisioning complex high availability (HA) or cluster environments using Windows and Linux operating systems, MySQL, MSSQL, Hyper-V, ESXi, Proxmox, XenServer, AWS, and Azure.- Configuring DNS, network adapters, Firewalls, Load Balancers, VLANs, Site-to-Site and SSL VPNs, and internal networks. - Setting up network-level storage devices to meet clients' environmental needs and expectations, typically utilizing TrueNAS, cloud storage, or custom block-level storage appliances.- Provisioning, configuring, and maintaining internal monitoring and disaster recovery tools to help prevent, alert to, and recover from worst-case scenarios and ensure application and server reliability.- Creating internal tools for ease of installation, updates, and maintenance of internal systems, typically utilizing Bash, Python, or Powershell.- Automating system administration tasks using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Powershell.- Monitoring public communication and client interactions to ensure they receive the best support possible.- Performing software patching and updates to keep systems up-to-date and secure.- Providing hands-on guidance, training, and assistance to colleagues and juniors as requested or necessary.
