What an exciting time to return to the CO! I helped provision a boatload of services for FTTH customers in various town across Wyoming, moved a few thousand customers to the Metaswitch EAS voicemail system, did a major ground system upgrade, helped with several battery and power system upgrades, helped provision and convert ~5,000 POTS lines to SIP, and helped decommission all of our Nortel DMS equipment. In the process of doing all this I was privileged to go to several schools with Calix, and Metaswitch, learn about Adtran TA5000 and its AOE via the Adtran Virtual Academy. We have seen too many friends and mentors retire or leave in the past few years, however, it is great to work with a strong team of peers that help support everything from legacy equipment, TDM, to Ethernet carriers. I have also been able to stay active in the new corporate safety team, the switching team, participate occasionally in the access team, and have been recently appointed to the transport team. Good equipment maintenance, from clean consistent provisioning to clean filters, is where I am able to add value to our teams and peers. My team I work with has similar values which makes the days fly by fulfilled and productive. Working with a group as talented as they are has made it possible for me to learn new technologies and become for example Calix Certified. I also have been able to put my newly learned talents to use by training others in basic provisioning of service on platforms like Calix, Metaswitch, and Netsmart/Fujitsu. This is definitely not your Grandad's POTS and it's not even your Dad's ISP anymore.
