I started as an intern at the Register in June and immediately began covering local business in south Orange County. As a trainee, I continued to write business news, features and a column on openings/closings in the area, and in January 2014 I took over coverage of the city of Mission Viejo.

Berkeley, CA

I conducted preliminary reporting on K-12 food programs in California, collected data from the Los Angeles Unified School District and compiled information for databases.

As a general assignment reporter, wrote both university and city news, including stories about the Nov. 9 Occupy Cal protest and its aftermath. As a member of the local communities team, wrote feature stories, including one written while embedded on a 5-day, 80 mile march from Berkeley to Sacramento. Also was the primary reporter for the Occupy the Farm.

Generated both university and city news story ideas and edited stories for both print and online editions. In addition, shared stories on Twitter and Facebook, and ran the Daily Cal's live blog of the July 2012 UC Board of Regents meeting.

Reported a wide-array of stories across the city of San Francisco and the Bay Area as a general assignment reporter in the metro department. Wrote both daily news stories and features.

Monterey Park, CA

Developed most news, arts and sports story ideas, guided section editors and created the newspaper's website. The newspaper won general excellence at the Journalism Association of Community College's 2011 So Cal Conference.
