Question Paper Delivery And Design Manager
Managed a team of inhouse typesetters to produce exam materials and other collateral in a high stakes, regulated environment. Also managed relationship with external suppliers working on materials including training, contracting and payments. Developed bespoke web-based tools to help improve efficiency and experience of the teams, including a workflow tracking system as well as XML to PDF via HTML workflow.
Assessment Process Leader
Reviewing processes and documentation to support a wider department. Included managing a team of content production managers working across a range of subjects to ensure they were appropriately supported so they could deliver their work on time. Produced interactive resources including offline web-pages for process reference, as well as developing a bespoke tracking/scheduling solution for the thousands of items of contents that the teams were responsible for producing.
Subject Leader
In my role I was responsible for agreeing and approving the content of assessments for a diverse portfolio including ‘Financial and Quantitative’ and ‘Business, Administration and IT’ sectors. I managed the assessment process for my qualifications, starting with the training and standardising of examiners, and then on to monitoring performance during marking. At the end of an examination series I used statistics and feedback to review the performance of papers and candidates, and present recommendations to our Awarding and Standards teams before results release. I also reviewed and approved reports before release to customers. Another of my roles was to promote and lead change among our contracted writers, managing them and their expectations to ensure we delivered an excellent service as well as secure results to all our candidates and customers. I was involved in process review and project management as we integrated existing products, and delivered new ones. As part of a review I helped the Standards team identify key risks to our products and projects, and suggested possible mitigation actions where appropriate. Projects I have been involved in included introducing a customer service qualification in China (offered in Chinese, but based on an English equivalent), a joint venture accounting qualification with the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate as well as an English language qualification, set-up as a collaboration with a local education authority in Guangzhou, China. I work with the qualification development team, providing assessment expertise in the production of new Specifications and Sample Materials.
Content Production Manager
As a CPM it was my responsibility to manage the day-to-day production of live examination materials using a pre-defined process; ensuring products were delivered on time and to agreed quality standards, whilst maintaining security and integrity of materials. I identified and introduced additional processes to complement existing ones, and add value to the end product. In my role I oversaw production from commissioning to hand over to print and distribution. As well as engaging external resources in the production process, there was hands-on involvement such as ensuring typeset materials met house style guides as well as proof reading at each stage of the process. I worked across a range of qualifications and levels simultaneously. Due to the overlap in production schedules I had to develop strong planning, scheduling and time-management skills. As an extension to my role as a CPM I was also heavily involved in UATs for onscreen content such as Pearson BTEC Next Gen tests on POP, and Pearson Functional Skills tests on Promissor. I also carried out quality checks for onscreen Pearson BTEC tests. Also as an extension to my role, I typeset controlled assessment materials requiring websites. This allowed me to develop skills and discipline associated with typesetting processes and allowed me to work directly with digital products.
