Hi. I'm Dan Conlin, a public historian and museum curator. Drawing on a background in both history and journalism. I love sharing history through museum exhibitions, writing and lectures, both public and academic. My content specialty is transportation and material history, but I have led museum teams to create exhibitions about a wide variety of topics connected to Canadian and International History in a 30-year museum career.I curated and wrote the Titanic exhibition at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in 1997 which has attracted over a million visitors. I also broke new ground by curating the 2009 exhibition "St. Louis: Ship of Fate" which studied the antisemitism embedded in the tragic refugee voyage of the ship St. Louis and co-curated the exhibition "Hello Sailor!" in 2011 which explored the lives of LGBTQ+ mariners in Canada. At the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, I curated the exhibition "Refuge Canada" in 2018, exploring the experiences of refugees in Canadian history. It has now travelled to museums across Canada and spun off a smaller twin called "Refuge Canada: Tent", aimed at libraries and community centres.I regularly teach university courses in the History and Atlantic Canada Studies department at Saint Mary's University in Halifax and often give public history lectures at museums and libraries.I write about history extensively, including two books, "Pirates of the Atlantic: Robbery, murder and mayhem off the Canadian East Coast" and "War Through the Lens: The Canadian Army Film and Photo Unit 1941-1945" as well as scholarly articles and contributions to the Oxford Companion to Canadian History.
