I have over two decades of experience in customs laws and regulations, global logistics, and international trade. I currently run the Customs & Trade practice for Crowe LLP, a public accounting, consulting and technology firm based in Chicago, Illinois. I work closely with companies that import and export goods, implementing creative strategies for duty recovery, future duty minimization, and trade compliance risk mitigation. I have extensive professional experience running customs brokerage operations and consulting groups with a strong focus on client satisfaction, revenue generation, profitability, and quality of services. I am a results-driven professional and have developed a reputation for collaboration and problem solving. I was mentored early in my career by former Customs officials and have developed expertise during the last two (2) decades in tariff classification, valuation, free trade agreements and special trade programs, First Sale for Export (FSFE), audit and penalty defense, bonded warehouses and Foreign Trade Zones, and duty drawback. During my career I've supported the modernization efforts by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) by serving on the Trade Support Network (TSN), represented clients' needs on Capitol Hill, composed white papers and case studies, and regularly speak publicly on customs and trade matters.I am a graduate of California State University, Sacramento with a B.S. in Business Administration and a minor in economics. I earned by customhouse broker’s license in 1999 and my IATA/FIATA diploma in 2000. Away from work, I am a proud father of two young teen daughters, and the head coach for the Solano Thunderhawks, a youth USATF running club for boys and girls ages 7 to 17.
