As Ensign Services’ Safety & Risk Management Resource, I provide support to all the skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, home health & hospice agencies, along with clinical laboratories and mobile diagnostic companies. My ultimate goal is reduce workers' compensation claims, create and maintain a culture of safety, increase injury prevention awareness and ensure compliance for all applicable State specific regulating agencies such as Cal-OSHA, OSHA, CDPH, the CDC and CMS. Responsibilities include:• Develop, implement and maintain safety policies and initiatives, including safety education and injury prevention. • Provides workplace safety and OSHA education.• Train on how to properly conduct safety incident investigations to determine the root cause. • Determine trends and create appropriate methods to prevent future incidents and accidents. • Promote a safety culture by providing ongoing education and encouragement to the operations teams to complete all job tasks with a safety mindset. • Attend Safety Committee meetings, making recommendations to strengthen their efforts. • Analyze data and makes recommendations to the Administrators for corrective action and continuous improvement.• Partner with Service Center Resources and affiliates to ensure an understanding of Labor Code regulations that apply to employees who are injured on the job, OSHA regulations, (CDPH) and (CMS). • Stays informed of changes in workers’ compensation regulations, workplace safety laws and OSHA.• Support the Workers’ Compensation program, including the development and implementation of initiatives, strategies and procedures to reduce loss costs and claim frequency. • Acts proactively in managing risk relating to workplace injuries.• Work with clinics and physicians within the MPN.• Assist HR-related duties on a professional level in some or all the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, recruiting and retention.

In my role as the Risk Manager at Vista Cove Senior Living, I have implemented multi-faceted corporate programs in collaboration with Board of Directors and facility directors for 5 skilled nursing and 4 assisted living facilities. Programs and Processes include: Return to work ProgramSafe Resident Handling ProgramFirst Responder Program Workers' Compensation Training (19 step program on pre-loss & post-loss)New Hire Screening Program (Pre-employment, post offer lift test and EDEX check)Other responsibilities include:Oversee company’s workers’ compensation, general liability and professional liability insurance programs. Train all workers’ compensation administrators on related injury avoidance and safety strategies.Work with clinics and physicians within the MPN. Conduct the ADA process for injured workers, candidates and employees.Work closely with claims adjusters and identify cases requiring medical management, early intervention, surveillance, etc.Communicate with injured employees immediately upon notification of an injury and explain workers’ compensation process while listening to concerns, encouraging them to call with issues.Distribute related workers’ compensation reports to Home Office and Community leadership teams.Attend Community Safety Committee meetings, making recommendations to strengthen local efforts. Collect all related monthly minutes and audit for compliance, providing feedback for increased effectiveness.Review and monitor all safety incentive programs within each Community.

*Analyze and manage workers’ compensation claims with reserves under $500,000. *Monitor return to work process for employees.*Analyze and manage all non-litigated auto liability claims and property damage claims with reserves under $50,000. *Provide instruction to the field on proper policy and procedures for how to handle work related injuries.*Serve as the primary point of contact for staff and the third party administrator in providing interpretation and guidance on the application of workers' compensation laws, regulations, policies and procedures.*Coordinate and execute the Company’s return-to-work program.
