Liaison

Yellowstone Safe Passages

Montana, United States

In December, 2019, I requested a meeting of minds with four prominent environmental NGO's to explore the potential that a community-driven collaborative partnership might have to address and resolve high collision rates vehicles encounter with wildlife while traveling US 89 into Yellowstone National Park. The issue - often framed as "Wildlife-Vehicle Conflict" - is pervasive throughout the United States, but Montana consistently ranks at #2 among all fifty states with the highest probability of a vehicle-wildlife collision. Shortly after my inquiry, now over four years ago, Yellowstone Safe Passages was created. My role as liaison is to coordinate, administer, and lead the partnership's co-designed strategic plan, assemble resources (financial and otherwise), facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue, generate new relationships between various stakeholders, communicate and engage with the general public and local landowners, present information and strategies in various social settings, and foster alignment among diverse interests and toward a shared vision.

Founding Director

The Common Ground Project

Montana, United States

In 2017 I founded The Common Ground Project, a registered 501(c)3 non profit organization that is now an internationally recognized space where diverse groups have an opportunity to foster deeper connections with one another and the natural world, create community through collaboration, and encourage healing for people and the environment. The Common Ground Project offers immersive experiences (retreats, gatherings, and workshops) on private ranches north of Yellowstone National Park. We bring ecological and cultural education to the forefront of conversation, including guided day-hikes, work with horses, wildlife viewing, and facilitated discussions around food and fire. Our programs explore a variety of educational themes ranging from the ethics and philosophies of land stewardship, complexities of the human/wildlife interface, emergent trends in collaborative leadership, and the influence of storytelling in healing cultural divides.
