Through Wave Pool's National Endowment of the Arts grant-funded fellowship program, I was matched with the Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center to support the My Life, My Story program (MLMS). In this role, I expanded the current volunteer training program designed to honor veterans’ lived experiences and strengthen patient and provider relationships. I developed additional training materials that draw on narrative medicine principles and practices. I recruited and trained volunteers in virtual and in-person settings. I scheduled and conducted patient interviews, which included writing, editing, and distributing patient stories. I coordinated the program's partnership with the University of Cincinnati Taft Research Center: Narrative Medicine, Compassionate Arts in Healing group and planned a speaking event featuring MLMS founder, Thor Ringler. I managed the MLMS database and presented updates to local VA staff and the MLMS national network during monthly and quarterly calls.

In this role, I crafted content for a wide range of audiences, especially among professional, technical, and medical/healthcare industries. I implemented qualitative research methods, including literature reviews, thematic analysis, mixed methods study design, interdisciplinary peer-reviewed publication. I designed, developed, wrote, and edited web and print publications, including but not limited to literature reviews, grant proposals, research reports, peer-reviewed publications, books, policy documents, user guides, infographics, press releases, website copy, blog posts, social media, and marketing materials.

My graduate research focus investigates the role of arts in medicine and connects with the emerging field of Narrative Medicine, where healthcare education curriculum includes the arts to improve patient-provider communication and care. With the support of expert faculty guidance, interdisciplinary research opportunities, community and industry collaborations, and my current assistantship position, I am uniquely positioned to build back into the university, my community, and larger public health systems.
