In the dynamic landscape of Charlotte, a city known for its growth and diversity, I had the privilege to collaborate with my professor as a research assistant at Queens University of Charlotte. Our focus was pioneering research on immigration trends and policies within the local community—an area that had previously been unexplored in Charlotte.Our project was comprehensive and impactful. We conducted extensive surveys involving hundreds of community members, meticulously comparing our findings to national trends. My role extended beyond surveys, encompassing literature searches and leveraging quantitative analysis techniques using SAS. This analytical process enabled us to test attitudes towards immigration policies in Charlotte, offering insights that were critical for informed decision-making.My responsibilities also included the presentation of our research. I skillfully summarized the survey data, translating it into visually engaging fact sheets, graphs, and tables. These materials not only conveyed our findings effectively but also served as valuable resources for the Queens community and local city government.Moreover, our efforts extended beyond data analysis. I actively engaged with the local city government, collaborating to develop a mapping site. This innovative platform aimed to bridge the immigrant community with essential resources and organizational support available to them, fostering a sense of belonging and integration.Being part of this impactful research journey deepened my understanding of the dynamic interplay between data, policy, and community.
