As a news anchor, Hurtado comes in for the afternoon meeting to read over the rundown with the other on air talent, the producer and the director. She then sits and goes over anchor reads and edits the scripts. Hurtado also writes weather tosses and kickers. She then anchors the 5pm show alongside her colleague.

As a Multimedia journalist Hurtado is responsible for pitching stories during the 9:30a meeting and then going out and pulling a one-man band day turn for the daily 30 minute 5 p.m. newscast at WUFT TV First at Five. She shoots, edits, and writes all of her own packages and also writes a web portion of her stories. If time permits and a radio student doesn't go out with her during her day-turn she will also do a wrap for the stations radio portion WUFT-FM as well.

The responsibilities of the Super 90 reporters/producers is to create and deliver 90 seconds of content for the post show hits on channel 5.Hurtado would pick the best local and state stories of the day and make a mini newscast to update viewers that missed the 30 minute newscast at 5pm.

The Reporter at Miami Dade College was really the launching pad of my student journalism career. As the Editor-in-Chief I mentored younger writers, assigned stories, went through pitches and critiqued them, proofread and fact checked stories in the editing process, and helping with layout decisions. Being the Editor-in-Chief was certainly a time of not only self development but a great learning experience.
