My training as a Heavy Equipment Operator (MOS 1345) took place in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO where I received honors and meritorious promotion for scoring top of class in licensure to operate backhoes, bulldozers, and forklifts. All the best big-boy toys. My first duty station was the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF) where I received additional meritorious promotion for demonstrating superior leadership and performance having conducted first-responder training with FDNY and WMATA; handling live biologic, pulmonary, and nerve agents in Level A SCBA PPE, and manufacturing training scenarios to simulate collapsed structures and mass-casualty events for consequence management operations as part of the Defense Support to Civil Authorities (DSCA) mission.In July 2007 I began my second duty station with 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Combat Assault Battalion or “The Iron Fist” in Okinawa, Japan. I served as a Platoon Sergeant on Camp Schwab, the northernmost Marine base and am grateful to have experienced the more rural elements of Okinawan and Japanese cultures as well as their urban counterparts.
