About Daniel Antunes

I have over 25 years of experience within the signalling railway industry. I have been directly responsible for delivering Safety and RAM studies and certifications required to commission safe and reliable products and systems for different Customers in multiple environments such as Portugal, UK, Brazil, South Africa, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.I was born in 1970 in Torres Novas, Portugal and completed the Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering in 1995 at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL).I have joined the professional life in 1995 at Alcatel in Portugal as Field Signalling and Telecom Maintenance Centre Manager. In 2001, I became the Head of Signalling and Telecommunications Maintenance department leading, coordinating and supervising around 140 maintenance personnel to assure preventive and corrective maintenance, spare parts management, a local contact centre 24h/365d, 11 maintenance centres spread throughout Portugal covering a network with 9 railway lines, 650 km of single and double track or more, 92 passenger stations, including 1 Operational Control Centre.In 2005, I was appointed Technical Safety Director for the railway signalling domain, a function I have accumulated with the Quality and Customer Services functions from 2006 to 2013 and then from 2017 until April 2023. During this period, I was also responsible for first Thales Portugal certifications in normative references ISO 9001, ISO 45001 (previously OHSAS 18001) and ISO 14001.During the period of May-December 2015, I have joined Thales in UK as Engineering Safety & Systems Assurance Manager supporting the set-up of the Technical Safety and Systems Assurance team for the 4LM Programme in London Underground.From January 2016 until now, I am in charge of the Technical Safety function, previously at Thales and since 1 June 2024, following the Thales Ground Transportation Systems business acquisition by Hitachi Rail, at Hitachi Rail GTS Portugal.
