Ben Franklin Bridge

The Delaware River Port Authority Police patrol the Commador Barry Bridge, Walt Whitman Bridge, Ben Franklin Bridge, Betsy Ross Bridge, and the PATCO Speedline which travels form Lindenwold, NJ to 15/16th Locust in Philadelphia. The DRPA is a bi-state multijurisdictional agency allowing police to patrol in both New Jersey and Philadelphia. Officers are required to understand laws in both states and be familiar with all of the facilities. I currently am assigned to the Ben Frankiln Bridge gaining experience in traffic enforcement, drug interdiction, and maintaining a safe passage for patrons traveling on the bridge.

Somerdale, New Jersey

The Borough of Somerdale is located in Camden County off of the White Horse Pike bordering the following towns: Magnolia, Cherry Hill, Stratford, Gloucester Township, and Lindenwold. Somerdale was a small town and challenged me to become familiar with the criminal justice system quickly because small agencies require officers to handle any situation with limited help. Furthermore, I quickly learned how to use proper communication with police radio, fingerprint suspects, enter NCIC entries, paper work for domestic violence, missing persons, indictable crimes, ECDR entries, community policing, and many more aspects of police work. Somerdale gave me experience in an urban environment and gave me a good foundation to work within a municipality. I worked with dedicated officers who taught me the importance of team work and being tactically sound in high risk situations such as active shooter. As an officer at Somerdale, I was able to practice active shooter in multiple different schools using simunitions. During this training multiple different agencies come together and create active shooter scenarios. Live simunition rounds are used to become aware of what it is like to be shot during such a hostile environment.
