I was employed as a Trainee Valuer in the Estates and Valuations Department and have so since December 2007. The duties of the post have included the valuation, negotiation and acquisition of ex local authority council houses from the open market; negotiating the surrender and renewal of various high profile lease agreements; valuations of land and property for the purpose of providing advice to the Planning Department for s.106 affordable housing contributions; various valuations for the acquisition and disposal of a variety of pieces of land and properties throughout the district; the renewal of licences and other land transactions direct with the public; the administration of applications for the valuation and sale of council homes under the right to buy legislation. The post has involved me having a significant amount of contact and co-ordination with members of the public and Directors and managers of various other service departments.

I was employed as a Communications Officer on a temporary contract for a period of 4 months. My role was to support the Head of Communications in organising a number of important and high profile events within the Council; this included the re-launch of a local Market, which I initiated and implemented from start to finish and the Chairmans Charity Christmas Fair, which is the Chairman of the Council’s major events. Other tasks included the design and specification for printing of the leaflet summarising the Council’s annual Statement of Accounts, the updating of the corporate website and general communication / advertising. The duties of the post required some original thinking, the initiation of new ideas, the coordinating of projects and meeting of deadlines. It also required good communication skills in dealing with various telephone enquiries and personal visits from the general public, the press and members of the Council.

I was employed as an Assistant Auditor on a 3 month contract. I initiated systems and compliance reviews assessing actual systems and processes against agreed policies and procedures; this culminated in the preparation of reports identifying systems weaknesses and recommendations, which were subsequently discussed and agreed with the responsible service department. The duties of the post required me to work on my own initiative, appraise and evaluate information provided and draw sensible conclusions; it also required me to have contact with officers at all levels throughout the Council.

between November 2006 and March 2007, I worked as an Intern as a copy writer / copy checker, coming up with ideas with regards to advertising and adverts. I was responsible for writing copy for various accounts, proof reading brochures, leaflets and print adverts. I worked under the Creative Art Director from the conceptualisation of briefs to the final product, subsequently dealing with clients, members of staff and liaising with the Art Director on a daily basis. Two of my significant briefs included the production of a television advert for a major international chocolate manufacturer and a bill-board advert for a car manufacturer.
