He previously served as VP, Pfizer R&D & Director, St. Louis Labs with 1200 employees focused on 3 areas; Biotherapeutics, Inflammation Research & Indications Discovery. With Pharmacia, he served as Co-Chair of Exploratory Development with responsibility for the early human clinical portfolio. The team mentored projects to select drug candidates & complete PhII proof-of-concept. One was Sutent for renal & gastrointestinal cancer. His own research experience spans medicinal chemistry, including HIV Protease Inhibitors for AIDS. He was a member of the team which completed 3 licensing deals, resulting in 2 drugs for AIDS; Lexiva & Prezista.From 2009-2012, served as President of the KC Area Life Sciences Institute, responsible for mobilizing regional efforts to transform the region into a center of excellence in life sciences. During his tenure, significant accomplishments included; Translational Research selected as one of the Greater KC Chamber’s Big 5 priorities; initiation of BioResearch Central to leverage the > 90 regional CROs; and establishment of the Center for Animal Health Innovation. From 2011-2017, he was a member of the Board of Directors of Sucampo Pharmaceuticals & Chairman in 2014 & 2015. Previously an advisor to the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation’s (WARF) Accelerator Program to advance technology commercialization. Presenter for Eli Lilly to educate groups on pharmaceutical R&D. Served as a member of the Board of Directors for Kansas BIO & MOBIO, and served as Chairman for MOBIO.
