I had the privilege to be a part of a team that helped open the 200th TownePlace Suites in the company. I started a month before the hotel opened, so I received training unlike many people that work for Marriott. We had a corporate training staff fly in and give us about a week or two of one on one training. I had the opportunity to learn all the aspects of inventory management, how to clean a room properly, and the correct way to make the bed. Throughout my time, we were the #1 hotel in the city and won various awards. Many times on my shift I would be a key leader at the front desk and have the ability to make key decisions when the managers were not able to be present. Some of my many responsibilities were to stock the sundries market, track expenses, keep the lobby clean and maintained, and deliver amenities up to guest rooms when requested. One thing I enjoyed about my position was the ability to take ownership of situations when a problem arose. If a guest were unhappy or dissatisfied with their stay I would make the effort to go above and beyond my job description to make it right for the guest, especially our Marriott Rewards Members.
