I recently graduated in May 2019 with my Bachelor's in Plant Biology. I have done genetic research on the rare California native Ceanothus ophiochilus, to develop genetic primers, that can be used in future population genetics studies. I did this research as part of Dr. Joshua P. Der's lab that focuses on Evolutionary genetics and Bioinformatics of plants. I was also a part of research program called SCERP. Here we did 3 novel research studies in 3 weeks, followed by 2 years or so of professional development education and experience.Right after graduation I was hired for a biological consulting plant mapping project for OC Parks contracted through Psomas. This involved traversing miles of terrain and mapping the location data of our target species, on the app Avenza, to provide a baseline for their future and ongoing non-native weed management. What I would like to be involved in the future is some career that, directly or indirectly, helps further the effort to restore habitat destroyed or affected by the efforts of man. I don't know exactly which job/career would fit this criteria. That is my current journey, to explore and discover what this might be.
