I work with other editors and manage reporters -- six are my direct reports, and I work with many others -- covering breaking news across the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern and Central California. This includes crime news, crashes, fires and other disasters, weather, and much more. We post online day and night and publish in print in the San Jose Mercury News and the East Bay Times. I work as both assignment editor, watching for stories we should cover and working with reporters on shaping story ideas, and as a line editor, giving heavy edits to stories before and after online posting, through multiple updates, and before print publishing as well.

I worked full-time as a breaking news editor, helping to manage a team of a dozen reporters who covered news about public safety, police, disasters, the coronavirus pandemic and much more across the Bay Area and Northern California.

I served as a member of the digital production team, splitting time between writing a daily newsletter, editing breaking news, and helping produce and manage content on MercuryNews.com and EastBayTimes.com using WordPress. I worked with other team members on metrics, engagement and much more.

I managed breaking news reporters, assigning them to cover various stories and events, edit and post news articles online, and prepare articles for print publication.

I reported on various breaking news events throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, focusing largely on Contra Costa County and Alameda County. This could include crime news, traffic news, and other types of news.

I designed front pages, section covers, and inside news pages for daily newspapers: the San Jose Mercury News, the Oakland Tribune and the Contra Costa Times. I also copy edited local and wire copy and wrote headlines.
