KCEG is an Annie E. Casey Foundation grantee that promotes equitable state economic and social policy to ensure that all Kansans prosper. As a paid Research and Analysis intern I provide logistical support to KCEG staff and produce my own self-directed policy analyses. I enter, organize, and clean data on economic and social indicators collected through open-source research to produce reports to educate voters, inform partner organizations, and convince lawmakers to support our policy priorities.

Topeka, Kansas Area

As a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program (AVID) at Topeka High School I work with over 100 first generation college-bound high school students. I coordinate academic tutorials on student-selected subjects where they most struggle to ensure that they succeed in advanced classes. I provide support and counsel in the college application process by providing financial aid tips, standardized test preparation, and essay editing.

Topeka, Kansas Area

As a Mental Health Technician at this Community Mental Health Provider (CMHC), I supported people identified as Severely and Persistently Mentally Ill (SPMI) in achieving their goals established in their treatment plans. I split my time between the Logan House Transition Program and the Community Medication Outreach Program (CMO). While at Logan House I provided support to sixteen SPMI residents as they transitioned from psychiatric hospitalization to independent community living. I organized nightly group therapy activities addressing diverse topics, from obtaining a primary care provider to identifying coping skills. While part of the CMO program, I conducted home visits to SPMI individuals living in the community to provide Directly Observed Therapy to ensure the safe use of prescribed pharmaceuticals. In both programs I submitted progress notes to the Electronic Medical Record and billed Medicaid for my services.

Greater St. Louis Area

As the Program Assistant for Washington University in St. Louis' MMUF program I provided administrative assistance to the program coordinators. I was responsible for producing documents vital to grant renewal - most notably our census database and spreadsheet tracking the accomplishments of our alumni. I directed the recruitment process for new Fellows, working to identify prospective applicants and ensure retention through collaborative events including writing workshops and interview preparation sessions. My proudest accomplishment is having served as the only undergraduate on the selection and interview team for the newest cohort.
