Daniel Lind Email and Phone Number
I've always been curious about how things work, and have proactively worked to find the answers. As a watchmaker, I find it fascinating to learn about developments in Horology. But looking back, to a time when fantastic devices were made with a complete absence of modern conveniences such as electricity their beauty and complexity intrigues me the most!It was as a Co-op student at Northeastern University that I was first introduced to the world of luxury goods. During that time, I learned about jewelry design and manufacturing. I also learned how the materials used to produce an item have a profound influence on the finished product. Transitioning from a front-of-shop routine to one that focused on operations, my career advanced and the building blocks of understanding an entire industry began to form.During my time operating a watch store in Copley Place, Boston, I started a new venture performing watch repairs. This was imperative at the time, since very few area businesses provided services for watches. Support for the Swiss watch industry was fragmented and lead times for repair were excessive, coupled with quality control issues for new goods. The one school that had taught watchmaking in my area was no longer offering classes, so I decided I would learn how to repair watches myself. Le manuel suisse de l'horloger rhabilleur de by H. Jendritzki was my main reference. Although an unorthodox way of learning Watchmaking, managing a watch store and also providing watch repair for the same company offered a constant source of work and inspiration to advance my skills. Eventually, I became interested in not just repairing watches, but making them. I bought a lathe and a milling machine with the intent of making my own watch. As I had no teacher, this too, I had to learn on my own. I designed and fabricated dozens of prototype watch cases and crowns. My first complete case with case-back was from aircraft aluminum my father sourced from an aviation subcontractor in Massachusetts. I then designed and fabricated a 316L stainless steel pocket watch. I've designed and fabricated additional watches over the years. After 8 years of being the service manager for Alpha Omega Jewelers in The Prudential Center in Boston, Massachusetts, I was hired by European Watch Company for restoration and repair. Today, I perform service for over 45 watch brands and manufactures, including Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Rolex. Additionally, I provide technical support for our client services team.
