I've had a passion for computers since I can remember. One of my first memories is programming at daycare when I was 3. As a freshman in high school, I joined FIRST Robotics, team BERT 133, which is where I got my real first dose of programming and engineering skills. I also learned communication skills as well as leadership skills while being on the drive team and the team captain. Then as a senior in high school, some friends and I started a group called project stratosphere with a local drone company called VikingUAS, where we would use a weather balloon to bring a fixed-wing drone back from the stratosphere, collecting weather data along the way. We fully designed a system and even got FAA clearance for the flight but we were unable to get enough funding to fully complete the mission. Even though we did not complete our mission, it was an extremely good learning opportunity working with professionals. After that, I went to USM part-time to study computer science while working at Hannaford in the deli department. Eventually, I was able to find an internship at a start-up in Portland called GalIoT Systems, whose mission was to create low-cost IoT security devices for low-income housing and be able to access them in one easy-to-use portal. This gave me hands-on experience in AWS, MongoDB, NVR systems, GoLang, C++, and SQL, as well as seeing a product from beginning to end. Building a device from a PCB and components, coding the firmware, having someone across the country physically deploy those devices, remotely setting them up, and then monitoring them.
