I manage projects in communications and outreach in order to elevate the profile of the newly established Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at HKS. Some of my work to date includes drafting and editing communications plans, policy briefs, and correspondence; developing an alumni outreach strategy; and creating mechanisms for HKS staff, faculty, and students to give feedback on diversity, inclusion, and belonging efforts. I also provide administrative support for the Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging as well as the office staff.

Brian Murphy group is a boutique, full-service firm offering sales and marketing services and technology to educational publishers of all sizes. As an Account Manager, I promoted products for university presses and larger academic publishers, overseeing nationwide territories in the higher-education and K-12 markets. I handled the sales process for our clients from start to finish: I designed and deployed digital marketing campaigns promoting publishers' products, communicated with instructors to pursue and close classroom adoptions, and provided service to customers after closing business.

On a freelance basis, I wrote, edited, and proofread a variety of materials for a thought-leadership marketing firm, including white papers, research studies, executive summaries, and blog posts. I also conducted underlying research for these materials as necessary.

I spent a year living in Melbourne, Australia, on a working holiday visa where I worked at a sporting goods store and experienced life down under.

I managed communications efforts for a small nonprofit organization dedicated to helping local at-risk youth—including social media operations, email newsletters, direct mail, and website design and maintenance. To build and maintain relationships with community partners in the city of Newton, I developed and executed an outreach strategy involving written and in-person communications. I also supported management of a mentoring program for local youth, including screening potential candidates, matching teens with adult mentors, and providing participant training.

Remember your freshman composition class in college? I taught it!In conjunction with my master's degree work, I taught two sections of a first-year undergraduate writing class emphasizing a range of rhetorical genres of essay writing. I also assessed and provided feedback on student writing.

I continued as a member of the site's editorial leadership advising on editorial direction, and I also wrote, edited, and scheduled posts.

I oversaw editorial direction and operations of the site as well as the 30 writers on its staff. I assigned, edited, and published blog posts and social media copy, ensuring accuracy, precision, and high editorial standards.

As an Editor, I served in the site's editorial leadership, and I also launched Onward State's coverage of Penn State's student government.

Onward State was founded by three students in a dorm room in Simmons Hall in 2008. I joined my freshman year and wrote posts aimed at an audience of Penn State students on a range of topics including university news, sports, and student life.

In preparation for the Helium.com site redesign, I worked with regular contributing writers and editors to advise on best practices regarding grammar and style. I also copyedited and proofread articles myself.
