Assistant Site Manager
Proving assistance to the farm's Operations Manager, through planning and problem solving. My responsibilities lie in coordinating of movents, grading, fish health monitoring, water quality testing, harvesting, feed management and housekeeping. Undertaking effective day to day fish husbandry duties to maintain optimum rearing standards and levels in this large RAS facility. Running the system independently at times, and as well as being integral to running and management of staff and systems.I have improved and developed understanding and techniques to give optimum water quality in low-exchange systems, including introducing appropriate record keeping and developing sampling protocols. I have designed and run trials using halophytes as a means to improve and develop artificial wetland effectiveness at the site, producing a stable population of plants in an environment that previously supported no perennial plant life. Through a combination of applied theoretical understanding and environmental enhancement. My specific areas of interest involve the long term development of recirculation aquaculture using high density rearing systems, producing harvest size fish in shorter cycles with improved conversion rates and the lowest possible effect on wild fish stocks and the environment. Developing systems that will one day work towards intensive and fully integrated aquaculture systems.
Assistant Production Manager
Duties involved the management of the production team, alongside undertaking sole responsibility for water quality and fish health at the company. The role also involved liaising with the Managing Director and Operations Manager at the company as I was one of the most experienced staff on site running the system independently with good background knowledge of the scientific processes that are integral to the site and RAS systems.
Production Supervisor
Acting as direct support to the Operations Manager and Production Manager, including independent operation of all farm systems, and providing leadership and support to general staff during these periods. As well as all aspects of fish husbandry and researching new techniques to build and develop the understanding of the systems under new ownership. I overhauled the farms techniques for feeding fish and delivered the best growth rates and efficiency seen at the business. I also designed, budgeted and ran successful trials for environmentally friendly aquaponics systems to treat aquaculture waste from the system.
Catering Supervisor
Heading a diverse team to deliver catering to guests and students of the University of Wales Bangor. Providing the organisation and structure for the smooth running of high profile events, and also the day to day running of a busy student bar. Undertaking general fish husbandry tasks and learning the processes and systems of a recirculation aquaculture system, I had sole responsibility for testing and developing biomass monitoring systems and using these to develop protocols on site. I supported the operations management by completing data collection, manipulation and processing tasks to provide information for monthly reports for the board of directors.
Catering Assistant
Summer work placement, working in a busy motorway service station serving customers and maintaining high standards of hygiene and service.
