My name is Daniel Pierce. I was born in Cupertino, California, home of Apple. When I was a child I used to ask my mother, who contracted with the tech juggernaught, if her work was where they grew apples. She would tell me that yes, Apple was in fact where they grew apples, and then I would ask her if she would bring one home for me. This was a conversation I remember having multiple times. What could be better than an apple straight from the farm?When I started high school I moved to Seattle, WA. It was there I spent much of my formative years. I used to ask my dad to let me get a job at the grocery store we often shopped at, but he preferred I focused on high school. I was a willful teenager, and decided I would rather work than continue high school, so I obtained a GED and moved out my junior year.I cut my teeth in Grocery at a family-owned and operated produce market called Top Banana, in the heart of the Ballard neighborhood in Seattle. I enjoyed my time there and learned a lot about retail and the labors of small business. When my friends were earning their college degrees I was immersed in moving and managing perishable inventory, selling cases and serving customers, and I loved it. I also learned a lot about seasonal and fresh food, practical knowledge direct from farmers and suppliers.I never expected to take to retail, but I've always been passionate about economics and markets, especially throughout history. My practical foundation in-store has granted me some keen insight, but I'm always seeking more, and working to grow. In this endeavor I'm back in school, hoping to practice some more advanced marketing and hone new skills. I've always had a fondness for things that grow.
