My experience is split between avionics system design and power system component design including- Single-W to Multi-kW converters for automotive and space applications for low and high voltage systems- Advanced power conversion including resonant supplies, digital controls, SiC and GaN switching devices.- Avionics for everything from electric propulsion, engine ignition devices, solar arrays, housekeeping supplies... all the bits that make up a spacecraft electrical system.I received my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder where my work focused on the digital control of high bandwidth DC/DC power converters. Since then I have been involved in both academia and industry on a wide variety of power related projects.

Research AssociateUniversity Of Colorado Boulder Jan 2015 - Jun 2015Boulder, Colorado, UsResearch focused on the use of wide-bandgap devices in next generation electric car power systems. This work included wide-bandgap switching device loss modeling and planar magnetics loss modeling and design. Higher level designs for individual converters as well as the complete power conversion module were also developed, with a focus on optimization of both power loss and volume/weight. Our research team included Dr. Erickson, Dr. Maksimovic, and Dr. Afridi of the Colorado Power Electronics Center. -
Assistant Professor, AdjunctUniversity Of Colorado Boulder Aug 2014 - Jun 2015Boulder, Colorado, UsECEN2270 - http://ecee.colorado.edu/~ecen2270/An early introduction to the electronics lab for lower division electrical and electrical/computer engineers. This laboratory based course guides students through the development of a wirelessly controlled robot using a mix of analog and digital controls. Students build motor drivers, design feedback loops, and develop microcontroller code working in small teams throughout the semester long course. -
Technical Project CoordinatorTeam Flatiron Sep 2014 - Jun 2015Team Flatiron is a volunteer based multidisciplinary group based at the University of Colorado Boulder whose focus is on designing an ultra-high power density inverter. The group was formed in order to compete in the Google Little Box Challenge. As a Technical Project Coordinator I acted as Project Manager, as well as mentoring undergraduate team members and assisting with technical work when needed. I was heavily involved with our initial system definition, component selection and controller selection. This included loss modeling and optimization for switching device selection.Team Flatiron was one of 10 university teams selected to receive a $30k grant from google in December of 2014 in order to support our ongoing work in this area.

Laboratory sessions cover topics such as maximum power point tracking, feedback control of power converters, and inverter design using both analog and digital control. The course culminates in a final demonstration of PV system including a photovoltaic panel, energy storage device, and AC generation capability. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of Colorado Boulder 2008 - 2014Boulder, Colorado, UsWorked on various projects in the area of power electronics, including the characterization of a digitally controlled Class-D amplifier, the development of a piezo-electric driver for a wireless multi-sensor network for structural health measurement, and the design of DC-DC converts and their controllers. Projects featured a mix of both FPGA and microcontroller based controllers. Work focusing on DC-DC converter control evolved into a Ph.D. dissertation entitled "Modeling and Control of the Dual Active Bridge Series Resonant Converter." -
Visiting ScholarUtah State University May 2012 - Feb 2013Logan, Utah, UsWorked on developing control strategies for bidirectional DC-DC converters. This included both the development of the converter hardware as well as the implementation of an FPGA based controller. Funded through Raytheon and the Office of Naval Research, the resulting work demonstrated improvements in both converter efficiency and responsiveness.
