Research focused on the use of wide-bandgap devices in next generation electric car power systems. This work included wide-bandgap switching device loss modeling and planar magnetics loss modeling and design. Higher level designs for individual converters as well as the complete power conversion module were also developed, with a focus on optimization of both power loss and volume/weight. Our research team included Dr. Erickson, Dr. Maksimovic, and Dr. Afridi of the Colorado Power Electronics Center.

Team Flatiron is a volunteer based multidisciplinary group based at the University of Colorado Boulder whose focus is on designing an ultra-high power density inverter. The group was formed in order to compete in the Google Little Box Challenge. As a Technical Project Coordinator I acted as Project Manager, as well as mentoring undergraduate team members and assisting with technical work when needed. I was heavily involved with our initial system definition, component selection and controller selection. This included loss modeling and optimization for switching device selection.Team Flatiron was one of 10 university teams selected to receive a $30k grant from google in December of 2014 in order to support our ongoing work in this area.

Research Assistant

Boulder, Colorado, Us

Worked on various projects in the area of power electronics, including the characterization of a digitally controlled Class-D amplifier, the development of a piezo-electric driver for a wireless multi-sensor network for structural health measurement, and the design of DC-DC converts and their controllers. Projects featured a mix of both FPGA and microcontroller based controllers. Work focusing on DC-DC converter control evolved into a Ph.D. dissertation entitled "Modeling and Control of the Dual Active Bridge Series Resonant Converter."

2008 - 2014 ~6 yrs

Visiting Scholar

Logan, Utah, Us

Worked on developing control strategies for bidirectional DC-DC converters. This included both the development of the converter hardware as well as the implementation of an FPGA based controller. Funded through Raytheon and the Office of Naval Research, the resulting work demonstrated improvements in both converter efficiency and responsiveness.
