EPSRC is the main UK government agency for funding research and training in engineering and the physical sciences, investing more than £800 million a year in a broad range of subjects – from mathematics to materials science, and from information technology to structural engineering.My portfolio research area is focused on the development, analysis, monitoring and optimisation of mechanical structures and systems. This research area underpins many fundamental industrial sectors and is a key player in economic growth. My role is to ensure that the research capabilities and major research investments are strategically shaped to ensure maximum impact from EPSRC sponsorship. I act as a custodian of the peer review process, ensuring that transparency and adherence to the principles of peer review are met. I am also the contact for Programme grants in the Engineering theme. These are flexible funding opportunities to strategically align the research focus of leading experts to a key global challenge and represent significant investments by the engineering and physical sciences research council.
