Design Manager
Built a strong team up from 4 engineers to 20 engineers in four groups:Design Engineering, NVH, CAE, and Offshore Design Support. The Design Engineering group has grew from 2 engineers to 9 engineers in a couple years, and I'm proud that the team has grown in expertise to create innovative and competitive brake designs for several OE's. We work closely with customers to understand their specific needs. We collaborate with suppliers and internal manufacturing to optimize the designs for their processes and cost.Over the years, the team has gained valuable experience understand lab procedures and data to lead the development of solutions to meet performance goals. The NVH group has 4 strong engineers lead by Todd Krebs, who is an excellent team leader and mentor for the younger engineers. This team has focused on creating and improving processes and analysis methods that facilitate complex test plans and supporting solution proposals for dozens of programs. The CAE team of 2 engineers has grown in understanding of how brakes work in order to improve setups and boundary conditions. We have a strong focus on correlation to data in order to continuously improve our design targets and FEA methods. The Off Shore Design Team (MSI) provides excellent support for creating prints, analyzing stackups, creating design studies, and innovating new technology. The team interacts closely with the North American team to support urgent design activities around the clock.
Advanced Development Manager
My last couple years as a "Design Lead" were focused on improving test and analysis methods to gain more feedback on how the design was functioning instead of the general pass/fail tests. This data would help to refine design guidelines and standards. As a result of this effort, a new group was created (Advanced Development) that I managed. We focused on improving data value and test efficiency to get the most out of the testing.Procedures included drag, bench, fatigue, and DYNO performance tests. Also lead efforts to build up a knowledge database in AUROS to capture design guidelines and knowledge as well as setting up design and test targets that could be validated against in order to create a database comparing actual data to design expectations. This information could be used to refine design targets or methods in order to improve correlation to actual performance.
