I am an accomplished educator and advocate with a rich background in teaching, research, and community activism, have made significant contributions across various levels of education and social justice initiatives. With experience spanning from high school education and college advising to college-level instruction and significant involvement in teacher union leadership, My career is marked by a dedication to enhancing educational outcomes and advocating for marginalized communities.My experience as a High School Educator and Senior Advisor at Downtown College Preparatory, Alum Rock High School, has been incredibly fulfilling. Here, I took on the role of English Department head and a member of the Site Leadership Team. I was proud to launch a credit recovery program, aiding credit-deficient and transfer students in graduating at their own pace, teaching ERWC and AP Literature courses that nurtured students' literary comprehension and critical thinking. This role highlighted the importance of autonomy, classroom management, and project-based learning in an educational setting that encourages innovation beyond traditional models.In my role as Secretary for the Teachers Union at Unite Summit, I focused on negotiating contract infractions that not only benefited educators and education specialists but also aimed at enhancing the learning environment for our students, demonstrating my commitment to improving educational outcomes through collective bargaining.During my time at the National University of Ireland, Galway, I delved into the realms of teaching and research, focusing on mediation and conflict theory within post-colonial contexts. This period was pivotal in sharpening my analytical skills and contributing to the academic discourse on history and literature.My work with Amnesty International and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has been particularly rewarding. Through research, fundraising, and advocacy, I've supported efforts to protect and uplift dangerously marginalized communities, achieving legislative milestones such as mandatory sensitivity training.My educational journey, which includes a Master's in History and Literature from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and a Bachelor's in History and Sociology from Boise State, has equipped me with a broad and deep understanding of social sciences. The Marshall Teaching Residency at Summit Preparatory Charter High School was a key phase, focusing on AP curriculum design and pedagogy.
