Originally hired as a part-time contract developer under a previous lead, after 2 months I was promoted to full-time project lead at Carbon Collective LLP, an environmental-action startup in Denver. As lead developer of the company's first product alpha launch, I designed the application from the ground up, which consists of distributed, modular front-end applications (AWS, React/Node.js, and soon Flask) knitted together via a backend, private API (Ruby on Rails/PostgreSQL). My role as defacto CTO demanded constant self-education and pursuit of questions I first had to learn to ask. And learn I did: from security; devops (Heroku/Github pages made that easy!); QA/Testing (TDD'd); and consideration of all configurations, provisions and dependencies. I also oversaw a team of 4 separate rotating sub-contractors, mostly in agile-inspired sprints managed via Pivotal Tracker/Asana project management software. Today, I am proud to look back on all that I built during my time there: a mobile-first, unique UX/UI, founded on a fast and smartly-constructed backend -- itself a 2 million-lined, clean, reusable codebase (25k of which my very own). I feel confident that my year at Carbon Collective set my employer and his young company on the right track as they set out to scale across Colorado and then, eventually, the world.

The Turing School of Software & Design is an immersive 7 month software development program. The backend program covers the core languages of Ruby, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, along with many other libraries and tools such as RubyOnRails, React, Node, JQuery, Express, Webpack, and PostgreSQL. Testing at Turing is a prerequisite, with most exposure within RSpec, Mocha, and Chai. The majority of school projects are completed in groups, with a large focus on pair programming, Agile approach, and cooperative Git workflows.
