One thing that has often been said about me is that I could make friends with anyone in a room. My friendly disposition, confident attitude, and strong interpersonal skills all contribute to this ability to connect with people. I love being able to connect and communicate with people in various different ways, like through music or by learning a language other than English. I think the connections that can be made to people through music is amazing, and have been performing music my whole life. A fun fact about me is that I play 3 instruments and am currently a member of the Mariachi Luz de Oro de Berkeley. Another method of communication I am proud to have is an ability to speak Spanish- something that allows me to be able to connect with a greater amount of people.My first job was as an Ulta Beauty Consultant at Target. Though it was not a high-level job, and many would brush it off as nothing to write home about, I found value and joy in it. Working with guests and helping them find products they loved, I felt I was able to actually make a great connection with them, which proved beneficial to both their experience and mine. As someone so invested in understanding and creating connections with people, I think one should always try to impact one’s community. In an effort to do so, I have volunteered with a wide variety of different organizations, including an elementary school, a Boys & Girls Club after school program, a kids’ tennis summer program, a food bank, and my high school’s nurse’s office. These different encounters with volunteer work taught me how to be more adaptable, both to different situations and to different personalities. They also better me as a person, enriched my life, expanded my worldview, and showed me how I can impact change, and what that feels like. It’s been made clear to me through all of my experiences that I understand people, and care about them, and that communication and connection is what I am both skilled at and passionate about.
