As CSO, my charge is thought-to-action. I am running the development of the State's new five-year economic development strategy, as well as working on core efforts that support the implementation of that strategy once finalized. This includes: working with RI Commerce executive leadership to create, deploy, and refine Commerce internal systems and processes that best enable our staff to reach their goals and our State's goals as well as ensuring that we are maximizing potential federal capital investment in Rhode Island as we seek to actualize our goals.

In this role, I served as the central node for internal operations, spearheading the Corporation's internal systems development and management and galvanizing team culture. I was the direct liaison and connection between the Executive Office of Commerce and the RI Commerce Corporation. And I got to engage in a core set of impactful special projects, including the structuring, management, and deployment of a number of COVID-response efforts and the build-out and implementation of a state broadband infrastructure initiative.

As the Office of Innovation's director, I oversaw a broad portfolio of efforts designed to reimagine, innovate within, and improve Rhode Island's public systems, from working with K-12 and higher education on access and affordability to working with state agencies on improved internal processes to engaging libraries, public housing authorities, and other partners in ensuring equitable access to digital resources.This role comprised of direct and indirect team management, program management and project oversight, and direct project implementation. As the leader of a lean team, I needed to ensure we outpunched our weight class, worked efficiently on the highest-impact efforts, and found ways around and through hurdles to consistently deliver for State leadership.

As the RI Office of Innovation's director of education, I led the Office's education portfolio, working to support Rhode Island as a "lab state" for education innovation. This included facilitating the state's education innovation cluster, EduvateRI, and working with state and local partners to bring personalized learning to scale across Rhode Island.

As RI-CAN's director of strategy, I created and executed local fundraising strategy, worked with the organization's executive director to strategize organizational growth and policy efforts as well as built the brand of RI-CAN through community engagement and outreach efforts, including the development and implementation of two new programs, YouCAN and Learning Pioneers.

As 50CAN's director of leadership development, I ran the teaching and learning arm of 50CAN--ensuring that best practices of our work was shared across all our states and that the organization was consistently improving upon work. Tangibly, this included running the robust internal professional development program; running external courses and workshops, including a ten-week online policy course called Education Policy 101; and streamlining processes across the organization.

Along with the work I continued as Fordham's policy analyst (detailed below), as Fordham's development manager, I managed grant reporting, grant proposals, and donor relations as the development manager. Further, I ensured stability of organization's project and general-operating support pipelines, including securing $4 million for the organization from foundation, individual, and corporate funders.

During my tenure as Fordham's associate editor and policy analyst, I curated the organization's weekly online magazine, the Education Gadfly Weekly, with a distribution of 10,000--including determining magazine content, editing, copyediting and laying out content; contributing op-eds, news analyses, and research reviews; and posted and distributing the publication online. I also managed various education-policy reports and projects on digital learning, governance reform, high-quality standards, and state-accountability systems.

Serving as the women's varsity coach and then head coach of the Wilson Crew team--a 501(c)3 program--I managed a $200,000 operating budget and team of sixty scholar-athletes; supervised and supported a staff of three squad coaches and four volunteers; planned and executed yearlong training regimen for thirty scholar-athletes; and collaborated with my Board of Directors on all fundraising, equipment purchasing, and legal decisions.

As a research assistant, I research for and managed a number of high-profile education policy reports including the influential State of State Standards--and the Common Core--in 2010 report that served as a key influencer in many states'​ adoption of the Common Core State Standards. I also served as the organization's copy editor (Chicago Style).

During this Global Development Initiative Fellowship, I evaluated the long-term efficacy of a five-year USAID food security initiative through qualitative and quantitative analyses across five areas of work including irrigation, maternal and child nutrition, and animal immunization. I co-wrote the final-survey report in French, translated the report into English for presentation to the national Africare HQ and USAID in Washington, D.C. and translated and recorded a 30-minute documentary on the initiative into English for distribution and marketing in the U.S.

At Compass, I mapped curricula for six subjects in order to plan, develop, and execute daily lessons for forty high schoolers with emotional and behavioral disabilities. I also created and directed the school's outdoor-education program, leading students on day and overnight hikes, backpacking trips, and skiing and snowshoeing trips in partnership with the Boston AMC's Youth Opportunities Program.
