About Daniel Dale

I am a father to two young children. These are my proudest achievements, and my biggest priority in life. I graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction at Griffith University in 2017, majoring in both Economics and Accounting. I completed the graduate program with the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) and Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in 2018, and am now working as an Assistant Director in Network Pricing. While working at the AER I have been able to develop a working knowledge of the energy sector, with particular technical expertise in the areas of network pricing, metering services, and the control mechanisms governing revenue recovery. I am neurodivergent. This means many things.I struggle with social interactions, social cues, and eye contact. I dislike small talk and 'niceties'. I dislike silence and failing conversations. I don't easily identify and process my emotions, and often apply a social mask. I am sensitive to certain things such as sound, light, and details in my surrounding environment others don't usually notice. I can sometimes shutdown when overstimulated, distracted, or uncomfortable. This can include an inability to process sounds, and can take me a bit to recover. My mind is always racing.I find it difficult to think and listen, think and talk, or listen and write at the same time. I struggle to take effective notes. I constantly anticipate and revisit conversations and interactions. A minor interaction can live on in my mind for months.I can struggle with change. I generally like to be in control of things that impact me. Unanticipated things can throw me off a bit. Change often requires a bit of time for me to adapt. I'll be critical if I think it relevant. I am detail-oriented. I prefer to become well-acquainted with subject matter before undertaking any work in that area. Executive dysfunction leads to difficulty prioritising and managing thoughts and actions.Rejection sensitive dysphoria and imposter syndrome lead to self-doubt and fear of being exposed, while being extremely sensitive to what others think of me.Dopamine dysregulation means it takes a lot to satisfy me, and I am constantly seeking dopamine through my work, activities, and other things.I generally process things logically initially. Any other interpretation is learned and may take time.I can be quite blunt. I can also over-explain things and cushion things excessively. I swing between both, often as an attempt to avoid the other.I appreciate bluntness when people communicate with me.

Amongst a variety of general duties such as taking incoming calls and tax queries, general tax returns, and client correspondence, I specialise in completing amendments to original tax returns. This role requires a good attention to detail, and a vast understanding of tax, with the ability to seek out interpretations of tax legislation and rulings. As my rile is to complete amendments to previously completed returns (both internal and external), I am required to be able to analyse previous accountant's work to determine areas of improvement, and have an ability to apply my knowledge in areas such as capital gains, business and personal services income, rentals, non-tax residency, as well as many more areas.Previously, in the seasonal position of Administration Assistant with Etax Accountants, I would contribute to the task of sorting and distribution of thousands of pieces of mail, electronic, and voice correspondence that are received daily. Other tasks I undertook included batch scanning of sensitive and confidential information and the following distribution to clients or other relative people, responding to and actioning general enquiries and also some accounting enquiries within my ability, completion of non-lodgment advices, banking, and other general office duties. This role was my first of the kind in a general administration and accounting environment. I pursued this role to gain experience in the corporate environment, to experience a more professional customer service than the retail and hospitality customer service I had previously experienced, and to engage in more relative employment to my studies.
