Sole mechanical engineer at start-up, from product conception through first volume shipments. Developed product line of indoor, small-cell equipment for mobile-network operators. Product consists of passively-cooled, wall-or-ceiling-mounted access points and a rack-mounted controller.Initially responsible for conceptual design, design spec, program schedule, cost estimates, design for manufacturing and reliability. Oversight of thermal simulation, industrial design, and mechanical design consultants. Direct responsibility for detail design of circuit boards and associated parts, product-level BOMs, mechanical drawing release, tooling and fabrication vendor selection and bring-up - domestic and offshore. Concept to prototypes: six months.Follow-on products: Responsible for all design work. Concept to prototypes as fast as seven weeks.

Sole mechanical engineer at start-up, designing fully-redundant, NEBS-compliant, rack-mount networking products for the telecom market. Responsible for conceptual design; design spec; schedule development; oversight of thermal simulation, industrial design, and detail chassis design consultants; detail design of circuit boards and associated parts; mechanical BOMs and mfg deliverable files. The principal design challenges were thermal and physical density. Product can reach 12KW per rack, and mechanical design must follow circuit layout constraints.

Sole mechanical engineer at pre-revenue start-up, designing rack-mount data-center product. Responsible for conceptual design, design spec, cost estimates, schedule development, oversight of thermal simulation and detail chassis design by outside consultants, detail design of circuit boards, carriers, and heat sinks.

Mechanical design leader for rack-mount networking products. Duties included writing mechanical spec; conceptual design; cost projections; project schedule; management of industrial design, mechanical, and thermal consultants and fabrication vendors; interface to manufacturing, marketing, and compliance groups, detail design and documentation, BOMs and document release, environmental testing and verification of product.
