As the injury, substance use and mental health lead at the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), my mission is to improve the health and well-being of communities affected by the growing epidemics of drug overdose, firearm violence, and suicide/self-harm. These complex, high impact problems require new approaches that leverage better data to improve policy and practice. I manage stakeholder relations and key partnerships with the CDC National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) and direct an interdisciplinary team of stakeholders, subject matter experts, consultants, and practitioners to develop public health technical assistance and resources to improve informatics capacity throughout the country. These efforts including a portfolio of strategic initiatives that aim to increase data system interoperability, adoption of data visualization tools, and equipping the public health workforce with epidemiology skills.
