SI is an academic support program that works with historically difficult courses. Sessions are hosted three times a week by SI Leaders, who create worksheets and plan activities that reinforce knowledge from lectures. We help students develop good study skills, prepare for exams, and maximize their potential for academic success. SI leaders also work closely with faculty to ensure content covered and student skills are in line with course objectives. As the Ochem SI Leader, I plan and facilitate group study sessions for students taking the Organic Chemistry I course at my university.

My primary focus is contributing to our lab's comparative transcriptomics project on Typhlatya cave shrimp from the Yucatan Peninsula, where I investigate genes that potentially support adaptation to anchialine habitats. I also assist with characterizing the biodiversity of underwater caves in the Yucatan through the use of genomic tools, including low-pass whole genome sequencing. I have given both poster and oral presentations at various professional conferences throughout the country.
