My mother was born in Italy and raised in a traditional Catholic home. My favorite stories from her youth were about times she made it clear to anyone who believed otherwise that being a woman does not mean being ‘less than’. So, from an early age I had a sense that there is power in calling out injustice, and value in using your voice.My own advocacy began at Washington NARAL in Seattle, participating in fundraisers, canvassing and other campaign activities in support of pro-choice candidates. (Notably, then-U.S. Representative Inslee spoke at one of our outdoor events from the cargo bed of my royal blue El Camino). Since then, I have spent the past 20+ years as a social justice advocate in whatever capacity I could. I am not afraid to go the extra mile - I once wore a full chicken suit to a debate for Washington’s 48th legislative district seat in order to spotlight the reluctance of a candidate to admit his anti-choice stance. I have flown across the country to support LGBTQ organizations at the US Supreme Court during oral argument after recruiting hundreds of mayors nationwide to sign onto supportive amicus briefs. I love a spreadsheet. I love a deadline. I love the (albeit rare) phone call to a voter that sparks a conversation and a connection on a human level. I am at my best when people are depending on me to do the necessary tasks that keep things on track and keep an organization moving. As a mother, volunteer, remote worker, COVID-induced homeschool teacher and sometimes soccer coach, I have honed the ability to successfully keep all of my plates spinning to a degree that I never thought possible (backwards and in cleats). My passion is to be a part of something larger than myself, and to show my own kids the power of fighting for what they believe in.
