As a life long dog lover it wasn't hard for me to jump into the position of Caregiver Canines Manager. In fact the program combines my love of dogs and my deep rooted respect and caring for senior citizens of my community. I was very lucky to have all 4 of my grandparents in my life for many years. This gave me an understanding of the aging population and the challenges they face. My goal with Caregiver Canines is to decrease the loneliness and isolation that our senior citizens feel on a daily basis.Since I started with CVCJ in 2011, I have grown the Caregiver Canines visiting therapy dog program to a roster of over 40 dogs. I have created relationships with area dog trainers and pet centered businesses. The program has been featured on radio, tv and social media outlets. One of the most important aspects of my job is educating the community about therapy dogs and the work they do. As a former teacher, I am most comfortable giving presentations to social clubs, school groups, scouting groups and the medical community. My hope is that through my work with this program I can make other community members passionate about therapy dogs and the people they help.
