I began my career as a Naval Officer in 1990 at Royal Roads Military College, training on the West Coast. After completing my engineering officer training, I had the privilege of serving on the HMCS Ottawa and HMCS Algonquin, where I deployed to the Arabian Gulf and traveled across East Asia, North America, and Australia. During this time, I worked in the Combat Systems Engineering department as well as serving on the Boarding Team, giving me a new perspective on operations.I then enjoyed an overseas posting in Portsmouth, UK, as a Trials Officer before returning to Canada. For the final 12 years of my naval career, I served as Project Manager for the Halifax Class Design Agent Contract and the Minor Warship and Auxiliary Vessel In-Service Support Contract. These roles prepared me for my next position as Supportability Manager within the Project Management Office for the Canadian Surface Combatant project. After two postings there, I chose to return to DGMEPM, where my experience in in-service support and managing aging platforms proved invaluable for assisting other project managers in sustaining our Canadian Patrol Frigates. When the opportunity arose to join Commerce Decisions, I was excited to bring my expertise to a broader range of complex projects, supporting project managers through thought leadership, criteria development, and training. The transition has been incredibly fulfilling, and I have greatly enjoyed this new chapter. Making the move from serving to contractor is difficult when the new position is fraught with selfish benefits. However, this one has been different in that everyone is focused on providing that helping hand, that unbiased advice, and hopefully reducing the workload of a project team who is dealing with a marathon where they are constantly asked to sprint.I love to organize, I love to listen, and I love to find the right solution that makes it all work. And I like to make sure it's all done with a little less pain and a few more smiles.
