When given the task to create a solution to any issue floating around the world, my partner and I decided we wanted to tackle the monotonous task of grocery shopping. In our class, Introduction to Mechanical Engineering, we learned how to code in programs such as MatLab and Arduino. Using this knowledge and applying it to the process of creating a prototype, we created the product, GrocerEasy. GrocerEasy is a smart cart that navigates a customer through a store based on the list of groceries they input into the program. With more time and money, upgrades to the product would be made, but given the restrictions, we created a code in Matlab that organized a customer's grocery list in the most efficient route to picking up all of their necessary items. This data was then sent through serial communication to an Arduino which displayed the items and their location on a Liquid Crystal Display Screen. Show less
