I have been a middle school educator for 18 years now. During this time, I have taught grades 6 & 7, as well as world history, geography, and reading and ELA. Having received my Master's in Literacy and Technology, followed by a +30 that was also concentrated in literacy, I believe strongly in a curriculum that provides students with daily opportunities to read, write, think, and speak, and use technology in responsible and productive ways. I am certified in middle grades and secondary social studies, as well as middle grades ELA. I have endorsements in Gifted and Talented, Rubric 4.0 Evaluator, and am a trained mentor. During my time teaching, I have served my schools in many capacities. I have sponsored clubs, organized school and community events, hosted clinical and student teachers, served on PBIS and other committees, and served as a member and Chair of the School Improvement Council. I have participated in social studies curriculum writing at the district level numerous times. I also had the amazing opportunity to write curriculum, as part of the 2012 STEM-H Fellowship, through the Cold War Gallery and Naval Historical Foundation in Washington, DC. Additionally, I experienced life as a park ranger for one summer at Cowpens National Battlefield, where I was a Teacher Ranger Teacher. My summer job was spent assisting with park functions, and writing curriculum to be used with students visiting the park. I was honored when I was named Chesnee Middle School's Teacher of the Year in 2011, and even more honored when I was named as the 2016 Distinguished Literacy Teacher in Spartanburg County. Another distinction I am proud to have was being recognized as the Veterans of Foreign Wars's Teacher of the Year locally and at the district level in 2010.
