Intern
Greater Los Angeles Area
The Los Angeles Review of Books is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and disseminating rigorous, incisive, and engaging writing on every aspect of literature, culture, and the arts.As an intern, I assisted in outreach via social media and publicity. This included developing social media strategy, creating original content, and monitoring social platforms. Furthermore, I was responsible for managing publicity contacts and e-mail outreach. In addition to assisting in day-to-day operations, the intern class participated in a rigorous editorial course that culminated in the production of the LARB Summer 2014 print tabloid. The interns were responsible for every aspect of the tabloid, from start to finish. We acquired and created original content, worked with writers to edit long and short form pieces for print, designed the tabloid layout, raised funds for the tabloid through a Kickstarter campaign, and finally brought our work to print for distribution among local Los Angeles establishments. During this process, I was responsible for editing Pullitzer Prize nominee Nicholas Carr's long-form piece "The Manipulators: Facebook's Social Engineering Project."
