The Stephen M. Kellen Term Member Program provides young professionals in government, media, nongovernmental organizations, law, business, finance, and academia the opportunity to participate in a sustained conversation on international affairs and U.S. foreign policy. The program allows these younger members to interact with seasoned foreign policy experts and participate in a wide variety of events designed especially for them. Each year, a new class of term members between the ages of thirty and thirty-six is elected to serve a fixed five-year membership term.The Stephen M. Kellen Term Member Program is named in honor of long-time Council member Stephen Kellen who was deeply committed to the development of the next generation of foreign policy leaders. The program continues to be generously supported by the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation.

-Manage efforts to engage partner countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia on innovative ways to achieve sustainable development and green growth in energy, agriculture, water, cities, and circular economy through transformative public-private partnerships.-Develop, implement, and manage the engagement of the P4G network, including national platforms (especially in Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Ethiopia, Kenya, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Bangladesh), partner organizations (World Resources Institute, Global Green Growth Institute, World Economic Forum, UN Global Compact, International Finance Corporation, and C40 Cities) and the Board of Directors.

Beijing City, China

- Managed all global policy initiatives across INBAR’s China headquarters and four regional offices in Ecuador, Ghana, Ethiopia, and India for the only international, multilateral organization headquartered in China.- Successfully organized over ten minister-level policy events to raise the profile of bamboo and rattan for sustainable development at international environmental meetings.- Reformed INBAR’s worldwide lobbying by drafting SOPs for all bilateral meetings and outside engagements, including the production of briefing memos, ministerial statements, and targeted INBAR vision policy briefs.- Persuaded INBAR’s 43 sovereign state members to implement bamboo and rattan into their national development plans and international environmental commitments through intense lobbying.

- Managed boundary water/environmental disputes between the United States and Canada.- Orally briefed and wrote formal correspondence to over 30 U.S. members of Congress and their staff, Canadian government officials, NGOs, and members of the public on behalf of Secretary of State John Kerry and other senior officials.- Analyzed existing and proposed environmental regulations/treaties and their impact on U.S.-Canada bilateral relations to formulate U.S. foreign policy.- Served as State Department’s primary point of contact to the presidentially appointed commissioners of the International Joint Commission (IJC), coordinating with other agencies to provide U.S. government responses to IJC actions and communications. - Served as Site Officer for Secretary Kerry’s January 2015 trip to Boston.

- Efficiently interviewed and adjudicated non-immigrant visa applicants.- Continuously interpreted the 25,000 page Foreign Affairs Manual to ensure State Department consular legal regulations were followed at all times.- Delivered numerous presentations to over 200 university and high school students, local media, and travel agencies educating them about U.S. non-immigrant visa policies.- Expanded US Embassy Beijing’s Business Visa Program through extensive outreach with the American Chamber of Commerce and U.S. companies’ Chinese branches.

Jakarta, Indonesia

- Delivered over 100 diplomatic messages to senior Indonesian government officials, lobbying for U.S. interests on a wide variety of issues.- Analyzed and reported on Indonesia’s relations and views toward the Middle East, the United Nations, and nonproliferation issues.- Engaged over 500 Indonesian diplomats, businesspeople, NGO leaders, academics, and third-country diplomats to draft over 30 substantive analytical reports on pressing foreign policy issues for senior Washington officials, including President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton. - Developed and delivered over 10 presentations to Indonesian university students and accompanying media disproving preexisting biases against U.S. foreign policy toward the Middle East.

- Taught SAT Critical Reading/Writing and SAT US History subject test to over 120 students in Beijing and Seoul’s Princeton Review offices.- Taught Writing, Public Speaking, and Cultures of English-speaking Countries to over 80 students at Beijing Language and Culture University.- Due to positive reviews and high test scores by students, successfully launched own private SAT teaching business via referrals targeting children of expatriates in Beijing.

Cambridge, Ma

- Managed group of over 110 Harvard students in fundraising and preparation for academic and cultural exchanges at Harvard and 6 universities in Asia.- Initiated a 500% increase in number of Harvard undergraduates sent abroad through this program.- Lobbied then Harvard President Larry Summers, Asian university administrators, and private companies to raise money and establish partnerships, including the Harvard College in Asia Program’s first-ever premier sponsorship deal with a major Wall Street bank - Morgan Stanley Asia.- Led Harvard student delegations to Beijing, Taipei, and Kuala Lumpur.- Negotiated highly discounted airfare transportation packages with local Boston travel agency.
